When I first discovered I was pregnant I was scared.Melissa was great throughout my pregnancy. She helped me cope with every change by explaining to me what may body was going through and how the baby was developing. During the birth, Melissa was amazing! She is so knowledgeable, encouraging, and she is a great coach! I also appreciated how available she made herself to us after our daughter was born. I can tell that Melissa loves babies and she loves her job. I will definately be working with her next time.
After discussing options upon finding out we were pregnant, my husband and I decided on a home birth. We had met Melissa a few years prior and she was the obvious choice for us. She has a kind and sensitive personality and an undeniable love for babies (and mothers!) She is very professional in her practice while keeping it relational at the same time. A visit at her office is more like visiting a friend than going to an appointment. I felt comfortable asking her any question at any time and was able to call on her during off hours if I had a concern. Melissa is very attentive to detail. She came and visited the home where the birth was to take place and made sure we had all of the necessities in order a few weeks prior to my due date.
When labor started it was a bit of a surprise. The day had felt like any other and I wasn't experiencing anything out of the norm...until my water broke! I immediately called Melissa and she instructed me to start timing the time between contractions and to just relax. It was difficult to time the contractions since they were not very strong at the time. My water broke at three in the afternoon and 'real labor' didn't seem to begin until around 7-ish that evening. When Melissa arrived she asked how I was feeling and if I needed anything. It was a relatively uneventful few hours as labor progressed. Being at home was very relaxing, no nurses coming in every few minutes, no IV's or uncomfortable monitors strapped on. It was all very natural feeling. Melissa allowed me to labor how I wanted, whether in the tub or on a bed, she was very calm and low-key, just being a calming presence and checking only what was needed. The actual delivery was very quick. I had been laboring on my side and decided to change positions, at which point baby decided it was time to come out! About 3 pushes and there she was! I was able to hold her right away, even before the placenta was delivered. The rush and excitement was shared by all in the room, even my almost 2 yr old son! She checked all of the neeeded things with my daughter as well as myself and the cleanup was swift and very thorough. Melissa stayed at the home until everything was done and made sure we were all doing well and functioning the way we should. It was an amazing experience. In the next few days she visited us at home to do the check-ups and weighing of my daughter. She completed the birth certificate and also took care of all my post-partum needs.
It was a truly wonderful way to have a birth! We are now pregnant with our third baby and are enjoying the same great care from Melissa. I would highly recommend her to anyone considering a homebirth experience!
Melissa delivered my two sons, Asher in 2008 and Kaden in 2010. We chose her because she is very professional and knowledgeable and yet kind and personable. I felt very comfortable talking to her about any questions and concerns I had. Throught both pregnancies I received excellent care. The office visits were thorough and I was well informed on every procedure that was performed. I was counseled on nutrition, rest, and birth choices.
My labor with Asher was 15 hours. I was exhausted, but Melissa kept me encouraged and was there every step of the way. My labor with Kaden was only 3 1/2 hours. I was able to relax in a warm tub during the contractions.
Both births went very smoothly. Melissa creates an atmosphere that is very comfortable. I would recommend her to anyone because I don't think I could have had a better pregnancy/birth experience!
